About Community First Panels
Community First fund was launched on 6th October 2011, by Nick Hurd, Minister for Civil Society, to provide small grants to certain communities in the country, based on the degree of deprivation and disadvantage. Community First is described as a drive to boost local social action within the Government’s Big Society agenda.
Community Development Foundation (CDF) is the body chosen by the Government to be responsible for administrating the Community First programme. CDF will hold the funds and make final decisions on applications. At a local level, accountability and transparency is undertaken by a registered local charity or voluntary organisation, acting as a ‘panel partner’. The panel partner for the Wheatley ward is Wheatley Area Community Partnership.
Applications have been received for the funding year ending the 31st March 2014. The local Panel has recommended bids for funding from, Care for the Family, Friends of Sandall Park, T-Light Outreach, Friends of Wheatley Library, Highfield Community Cafe, Roots Music and the Ukrainian Club.
